ndslotesse's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Irish Auction Dear Diary, There is so much hate in this world, people who are to damn ignorant to set aside their petty differences. In Ireland children are being scolded and abused because of Relgious differenes, between the Catholics and Protestants. In Northern Belfast, girls as young as 6 are having ballons of urine thrown at the by Protestant Adults. My school has set up a program, which has now been established for approximately three years, headed by my World Geography teacher. We have 12 children from Ireland, 6 Catholics and 6 Protestants, come and live with a host family for 2 weeks. We have barbeques, games, and parties for them. Hopefully, getting them to see the ignorance, their own parents enforce and try to become people who see both sides. Yesterday, we had an Auction to gather money for the trip for them, and all the extracurricular money needed for the activities. My sister has been Chairman since this project was started and for my first time, I thought I did fairly well. I was a 'runner' I ran the items worth 100's of dollars, back and forth from the stage to the backroom to place the items. Earlier that day while we were setting up (it was pouring all day) some portraits were brought in, and some of the crew were asking if we wanted to put them backstage. Explaining that these portraits were worth thousands of dollars. Me, being the clumsy person I am, (no I didn't drop anything ^_^;;) said no, I didn't want to risk it. So, as I was standing there helping bring in other things, a man handed me a portait, exclaimed 'Carefull' and told me to bring it up. I was too worried to drop it to argue, so I obeyed and brought the picture backstage. As I hurriedly tried to find an open spot on the ground to place it, I almost dropped it. Geeze, was I lucky I didn't! I put it down, and realized it was an autograph picture of Tiger Woods! ::SWOONS:: He is sooo cute! :) I was about to faint. Later on that night I kept raving about how I held it in my hands. Hehe. That night as the Auction started I pigged-out on hotdogs, sandwiches, and cheese (did I ever say that cheese is one of my favorite foods?). It was great fun, as I got to act like Vanessa White and show off items and watch the exitement of auction battles! Yay! The best part was knowing that we earned a lot of money to get this children over and get them to see how fun it is to be friends with whoever it is you want be friends with. With care, P.s I can't believe I held an Autograph Portrait of Tiger Woods! ::GIGGLE:: 5:33 p.m. - 2002-04-21 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
